Commission Chair Loren Thomas told Monday's commission meeting spectators that when untrained deputies are hired by the sheriff×ÔοÊÓƵ department, the county is responsible for paying for their law enforcement training and certifications. Because of that, deputies are asked to sign a contract committing to serve with the department for a set period of time. If deputies leave before fulfilling their contractual duties, the contract stipulates they must reimburse the cost of the training to the county.
